  1. We have mostly been working on editing the working outline into a simplified version that uses key words and phrases instead of sentences. This helps us stay on track while presenting without reading directly from the outline, and directional cues will help keep us on track with time. The outline was split into sections for each person, highlighted in different colors so there wouldn’t be any confusion and to allow each person to tailor their part. This method ensures clarity and helps us organize our thoughts effectively. Also, it made it easier for each of us to focus on our specific responsibilities instead of taking on the whole project at once. One challenge we have faced is working around our schedules. There has been minimal communication over the weekend, but we had a time set up on Tuesday to practice our presentation in person. Unfortunately, Tim wasn’t feeling too well, so we decided to move our practice session to Wednesday morning instead. Despite the schedule change, we have been individually preparing by reviewing our parts. I have been practicing my sections and timing them carefully so that I wouldn’t take up too much of the overall presentation time. The idea of a Q&A was suggested, but I don’t think we will implement it due to the lack of time. Overall, our presentation process has been good, and I feel confident that we are on track despite the rescheduled practice session.

  2. Throughout the past week, my partner and I have begun to put more detail in each of our main topics and organize the layout of them in a way that flows smoothly and would make sense for the audience. We chose which parts of our outline we would focus on as “main points” of our speech and gave them some more depth. We also begun to rehearse our assigned parts of the speech together, and individually when our schedules don’t line up well. We’ve been communicating with each other well, as we talk almost daily regarding our progress and how confident we’re feeling with coming close to a finished product. A few challenges we’ve encountered were which parts of the speech each of us would present, but we were able to figure out who gets what based on prior knowledge of the subject so it’s easier on both sides to understand the concepts and be confident with our words. We also worked on putting together a small slide show with a few videos demonstrating how a bench press will look with proper form, and with improper form. Overall, I believe we’ve had great success in progress and following the “dry” run on Wednesday, we should know what needs to be changed/improved and will have a speech that we’re both proud of.

  3. This week my partner and I have really been refining our rough outline to make it resemble more of what we want the final speech to look like. We also figured out who would say what parts of the speech, and did more research about some of the points we want to make when we give the speech. The communication my partner and I have had this week is very similar to how it was last week. We spoke over text to figure out when we could meet up to work on our speech to prepare for this week. This leads to the main challenge we had which was finding a time that worked well for both of us to actually sit down and work on and practice the project. In order to overcome this we had to compromise on the times that we individually would have preferred for a time that we could both physically and mentally do. Our successes came when we met up in person. We were able to figure out our next steps pretty easily and we got a lot done. In my opinion, we also worked together really well, we had a lot of the same or similar ideas and we were able to talk out any concerns we had together which helped us stay productive.

  4. This week we just added a few things to our presentation. The braiding will take up a majority of our speech so we feel like time wise we will be in a safe place. Some struggles we had been to find time to meet. We have been texting and working on the document on our own time. It took lots of communication, but we figured out a time and place where we could practice. We both have very busy schedules, so we had to work around that. We added a few things to our speech, but it will be good for us to see how it plays out when we present it in front of our classmates. I like how we both have different roles that work together to make the speech turn out. Instead of us not talking back and forth I will be explaining the steps while Brooke actually performs the steps.

  5. Over this past week, my partner Skyler and I were able to go into more fine detail of each of steps of hair braiding. It took us some time to be able to meet in person but eventually found time that worked for both of us. When we met in person and were able to walk through all the steps out loud to see what made sense. We also worked on simplifying the steps for the audience. We were able to go over our props again that we will use as well as the set up we will use for class. We talked a few days over the week to get our presentation together as well.

  6. This past week, my partner and I have been working on finishing up our working outline. We have been making sure we fill in all the details that we want to have in our final speech. We have really focused on the body of our speech, making sure that we have good explanations that support what we are trying to demonstrate. We have also added in our conclusion and decided what we want to wrap up with. We have been communicating by text and are meeting up before class to go through what we have for our working outline. We have briefly started on our speaking outline. This has been the biggest challenge for me because I have a hard time trying to condense my working outline into a speaking outline with keywords that will help me when giving the speech. For me, I prefer to read from partial or full sentences, so trying to decide what the most important words are for the speaking outline is hard for me. I have started to work through it by picking out the main point of the sentence, then adding sub points for the other things I think are important. But, I like how our working outline came together and how we split up the topics between the two of us.

  7. This week me and my partner Isaac focused on elaborating and planning out our specific subsections on our outline. We had a rough outline of what we wanted to talk about last time, but did not yet have a solid idea of who was going to talk about each part. During this process we met up twice, our first meeting we sat with our outline to discuss three things. The first thing we discussed was the order of which we wanted to discuss our subsections. This was important as we want to create a logical order of how we should discuss our topic. The next thing we discussed was key details/notes we want to touch on for each subsection. For example, under our “Setup” section, we wanted to touch on grip width for the bench press. The final thing we spoke on for our first meeting of the week was who would deliver each part of the speech. This was important as it creates an even flow of who is delivering the speech between us. Our second meeting consisted of us rehearsing the speech. As we all know, rehearsal is key to performing a decent speech. When rehearsing, we found a rhythm and created a solid foundation of how the speech will flow, and the atmosphere it creates.

  8. This week has been more of the same where we meet up for about an hour to go over how we’re gonna present. This time however, we had to delay our meetup until very close to class time due to the fact that I caught something and have felt ill for most of the week. And the only reason I’m able to do practice now is because I found some cold medicine. I suppose this is a good lesson in flexibility and being able to plan around unexpected events. Which is especially important when it comes to fields like public speaking, which require the collaboration of multiple people in order to function. Because you have the speaker(s), but you also need to have an audience to view it. And coordinating multiple people to meet up can and usually is a hassle. In terms of what we’re gonna work on, we’ll mostly be cutting up the document that we have and getting that into a workable format that we can actually present from. You know, figuring out what to cut, what to keep, and so on. I don’t think we’ll have much to worry about in terms of presenting, I think now we both have a pretty good grasp on ideas as well as having a general guide on how and where to take this.

This week I have been working on and practicing my speech. I’ve tried to flesh out my outline, and we decided to add a section about the origins of pizza dough tossing. Pandora recorded herself preparing and tossing some dough for us to use in our presentation, and we have worked on what to say during the videos. We didn’t practice over the weekend because of personal matters going on in my life, so we got together Tuesday and Wednesday in order to practice and plan our next steps. We’ve also worked out what our prop is going to be and how to obtain said prop. Overall, I think we’ve been progressing well and I hope we can work together to make the best presentation possible.

  10. This past week, my partner and I have worked on getting the final speech plan ready. We’ve made it a point to explain all the points we want to stress in our concluding presentation. A considerable part of our job has been carving out the body of the speech so that the explanations become more apparent, which, in turn, highlights our key points effectively. We’ve also completed the conclusion and thus have decided on how we would want to sum up everything. While we were going through the process, we kept ourselves updated via text and planned to get together before class to discuss progress.

We have also started the speaking outline, which has proved to be the most challenging part. Transitioning from writing complete sentences and scripts is what I’m used to, so trying to break it down has been difficult. I’m solving this problem by figuring out the most essential part of each sentence and breaking it down from there. Although it’s a bit tough to say the key points, our working outline is going alright. I’m also glad to see how we managed to split the topics evenly between us, making the procedure more pleasant and collaborative.

  11. Over the past week I have been working on the formation of the outline and what are the main points of what me and my partner want to say. Me and my partner had an in person work session where we were able to get our thoughts together and get a lot of progress on our outline. We discussed and agreed that the most optimal way to give the speech is by dividing the speech into a hook statement, intro, and then the two different ways to play the game and ending it off with key conclusion statements to leave the audience with. The most challenging part of this process is deciding how in-depth our talk should go because our topic has a lot of material we can talk about and that we have the potential to easily go over the time or we cut too much and we go under the time range. To solve this we are going to use our dry-run to gauge how we are at the moment then probably practice to be more efficient with our talk. A success that we encountered is what the main formation of the speech is and what sub-information we need under it.
