  1. In the past week, my partner and I have been working on our project together either in person or over the phone. If we make updates on our outline or slide show, we update one another through text, or if we see each other outside of class. We got together to work on the speech outline and slideshow to make sure that we would be prepared for the dry run next class. I think some challenges we are facing is timing. The timing to our project is important for us because we want to make the deadline for the 3-4 minute mark, and then again for the 4-7 minute mark for the live run. Making sure that we are talking our time, understanding the material, and speaking clearly and efficiently will help the timing issues. Being able to actually perform the tutorial with the audience will also help slow things down as well. We are worried that our “how to tutorial” is going to be too short, but recognizing the reality of what we are going to perform makes me feel better. Along the way, I think our success includes our preparation. I feel confident that I know what I am explaining and this will help make the speech even better.

  2. This past week, Giselle and I have been discussing what part we each are going to take during the speech. We decided she will be talking about the introduction and I will be talking about the steps on how to make a friendship bracelet. The string finally came in the mail last week, so it was nice being able to see all the colors and knowing that we have enough for everyone in the class. We also talked about that during the speech I will be walking around helping people with their bracelets while she will be showing pictures on the board if others get stuck. I am hoping we get in the time frame but it all depends on the amount of people that need help or have questions that’s why it is important to have clear communication such as steps and pictures so it will be easy to follow along.

Gabe and I spent the last week working on our Speech 2 assignment, which involved building a paper airplane. We have almost our entire slideshow done to support people when we put together the paper airplanes. Finding time to meet in person has been one of the most difficult things because our schedules don’t always match up, but we’ve made sure to stay in touch by talking on the phone. That has allowed us to stay on course by exchanging ideas, providing drafts, and keeping each other updated on our progress. The technique went much more smoothly after I purchased origami paper to ensure that the airplanes were the proper size.

  4. This past week my partner Hana and I have put in some good work thus far. We’ve thoroughly communicated on what each of us need to do to be prepared and stay each complete our respective slides. Hana went out and purchased origami paper which was very beneficial to our project. Some struggles would be finding time to meet up as when she’s been free, I’ve had basketball commitments and also had gone home over the weekend, as when I’ve been free Hana was home. Although we haven’t had time to talk about our speech in person we spent time over the phone discussing who will say what, and how we plan on presenting our project to the class. Although there’ve been struggles we’ve found a way to format and share ideas on how we can better our project so it’s all ready to go by the time we have to present!

  5. Grace and I have been on a grind lately. We met up earlier this week to discuss and build our flyers and presentation. Our flyers and presentation look spectacular. One challenge is that we haven’t had the time to do a dry run or practice, but that’s what tomorrows for. We also decided which roles we will have assigned. Grace will present how to spool a reel, and I will present how to tie line to a hook!

  6. This past week, me and my partner have been practicing the self-defense moves that we will be presenting in class. We practiced the two moves and recorded them so we will be able to remember them on the day of the dry-run and for the final speech delivery. We also revised our outline a little, which we might continue to do tomorrow before class. The only issue that we’ve run into is the fact that neither of us really know anything about self-defense, so we’re both newly learning all about the strategies, moves, and purpose of self-defense. However, self-defense is a very important skill (a crucial one if you are a woman), so learning this skill together will keep us prepared and confident for any future encounters that we may face. So, with this, we are hoping that our classmates will also learn something new and be able to retain these self-defense mechanisms as a precaution for themselves.

This past week me and my partner, Kathleen, have been working on our overall presentation such as speaking on what to say, our slide show to present in the class with us, and the materials we will need. Me and Kathleen have been communicating in person. This means we have met up and did the work together to talk because it is easier for us to communicate and get things done. A challenge we have run into is not having the products we need. We decided one of us will go to the store and get the items we need to have for our final presentation and can do without it for the dry run. I think the success we have had is coming together to make our project. This means I feel like our slide show is well done together and coming up with what to say is also good.

  8. For the past week my partner and I have been working on self defense and trying to understand it to the best of our abilities to teach the class to the full extent. My partner and I met up yesterday to again practice our defense moves and to also decide how we were going to present these new moves. It honestly went way better than it had before. I think we genuinely have our moves packed down and will be able to teach the class reasonable life skills. I am grateful for this project because it gave my partner and I a better bond and a friendship. It also gave us an opportunity to learn something new and teach others this skill. I truly think we are very close to the final place we want to be and will be able to present affectfully by the end of this week. And I can’t wait to see how others react to the new skills we have incorporated. But to also see what they have to teach us. Overall this week’s practice went according to plan and made me even more excited to present.

  9. During this week my partner and I communicated through text to plan out what to do and when. We scheduled a time to meet up, and goals for ourselves to complete prior to the meet up. We each worked on a task to prepare for the meeting and that helped us have a pretty relaxed and easy-going time to quickly join our thoughts and continue our work. We rehearsed our parts of the speech and planned how each of us will contribute in buying and bringing our supplies next week. We plan to do the actual experiment with our roomates the day before we give our official speech. We are a little worried about timing, but after giving the dry run, and the practice to our roomates we feel that we will be able to clean it up easily last minute.

  10. This past week, I’ve been focused on preparing and practicing the speech with Sydney about how to make a balloon animal. We spent time organizing the steps clearly and deciding who would explain which parts, to make our presentation smooth and easy to follow. We communicated mostly through text messages and video calls, which helped us share ideas quickly and practice together even when we weren’t in the same place. This constant communication over this past week made it easier to coordinate our parts and give feedback to each other.

One challenge we faced was making sure the instructions were clear enough for people who has never tried making a balloon animal before. Sometimes it was hard to explain the steps without confusing the audience or rushing through the details. To overcome this, I practiced speaking slowly and asked Sydney to show the movements clearly during the demonstration. A success we experienced was how well we worked as a team, Sydney’s hands on demo combined with my explanations made the speech engaging and easy to understand. I felt proud of how we handled the challenges and created a fun learning experience for everyone watching.

  11. In preparing for speech 2, me and my partner Keria stayed after class to sort out how we wanted this speech to go. We clarified lines that we wanted to read and made sure the materials were ready. Plus, we were communicating on Instagram to increase our working progress. A challenge I had to overcome was becoming familiar with origami. Origami is actually a new skill for me as well. While Keria has had some practice with it before, I have not. I will continue to practice before the speech, because that is my biggest challenge. A success we encountered on the way was being comfortable communicating certain issues and making sure we had the correct information. We were able to use evidence in our speech as well as a slide show presentation to help the audience understand. With this process as well as the speech it should give everyone clarification on all the steps.

  12. Maddie and I did not do a lot of practice at the end of last week for our speech, unfortunately, due to the fact that she was very sick and I was trying to keep my distance, so I didn’t catch the sickness. When she was no longer contagious, we did get together for our speech and practiced, we made up our slide show and our outline doc. Luckily, I did not catch her sickness.
After the string finally came in the mail, we decided that I would be talking about the introduction, and she would be explaining the steps of how to make the bracelets because she has a lot more experience with them. Our practice runs went well, so I hope our practice run in class goes well in front of a lot more people than just our roommates. I am most worried about us making the time frame, but I believe that we will do well and will be confident.

  13. Me and my partner have both been practicing origami and looking at the slides and how we want to structure everything. I think it’s going well because we easily figured out how to share the workload of the presentation. We still have been communication when needed through text. There hasn’t been to many challenges, I just need to find more time to go over the slides and practice them. I think we both work well together and have similar ideas so we get things done easily.

  14. This past week, me and my partner Lilian have been working on practicing what to say, making the presentation slides and material that we would be needing for next week’s speech. To stay on track, me and Lilian have been both communicating over the phone and in person, which has helped us stay organized and make sure we are both on the same page, which has helped us stay organized and make sure we are both on the same page. A challenge we encountered thought this process was not having all the material we needed available at the time and just having some of them. What we agreed on is that I would bring some products I have from home and she would buy some of the others that we were missing. One success we encountered, despite these challenges, was being able to agree and come together to build and organize our project, which showed that our teamwork and communication are working well.

Gabe and I focused on improving both our time management skills and our ability to maintain eye contact during our practice. We realized that keeping track of time is really important because it helps us stay organized and make sure that we don’t rush through our points or leave out anything important. Practicing this gave us a better sense of pacing and how long certain sections of our speech should take. Along with that, we worked on making consistent eye contact with our audience. At first it felt a little awkward, but the more we practiced, the more natural it started to feel. Eye contact made our delivery stronger because it helped us connect with the audience instead of just reading or looking down. By combining these two skills, we noticed that our overall confidence grew, and we felt more prepared to present. We believe that by the time we give our actual speech on Wednesday, we will be able to engage with the class more effectively, keep their attention, and communicate our ideas in a clearer and more professional way.

  16. is past week I’ve been focused on preparing and practicing the speech with Abby about how to make a balloon animal. We spent time organizing the steps in a way that actually made sense, and figuring out who would explain each part so the presentation would feel smooth and easy to follow. Most of our communication happened through texts and video calls, which made it convenient to share ideas and practice together even when we weren’t in the same place. Staying in touch like that throughout the week really helped us coordinate our parts, and give eachother helpful feedback.
One challenge we ran into was making sure the instructions were clear enough for people who had never tried making a balloon animal before. It was sometimes hard to explain the steps without confusing the audience or going too fast. To fix this I tried to slow down my explanations and I asked Abby to describe the movements clearly during the presentation. One of our biggest successes was how well we worked as a team. Abby’s explanations paired with my hands on demonstration made the speech more engaging and easier to understand, and overall I felt proud of how we handled the challenges and created a fun learning experience for everyone watching.
