  1. This week so far we met in person and we spent a good amount of time getting our timing right and making sure we had all the pieces that we wanted to include. We had a hard time getting started because we all felt a little overwhelmed by the ideas we had and how we were going to organize and time everything in the most beneficial way that we could. We learned through this that we all had slightly different ideas about how we planned to move forward with the project (ie: how scripted v. improvised we wanted it to be). Once we realized this we ran through the script to get a feel for what everyone wanted to say and then went through and adjusted what we had so that it was more cohesive and included all of our ideas and so that we had a good reflection of the project we all wanted to create. We had a significant issue with timing because we realized we all had prepared way too much to say in the time that we were allotted, so as we were running through it we stopped and discussed what was and wasn’t working, what we needed to include and what we could cut out. At the end of our meeting we had a much better grasp on what our final product would look like, what the ads we planned to make would include, and a schedule for moving forward and the things we wanted to continue to work on and pieces we still needed to focus on.

  2. This past week, my group and I have been meeting and working on the details of how we will flow the speech. This past week we assigned what segment would go first and who would ask what questions. We also figured out the details of the ad and how we wanted to go about it. We also reviewed the questions and our answers, almost acting out the speech, and timed ourselves. This helped us realize that we need to keep our answers very short and straight to the point because, with four of us in the group, we can’t all speak for 3 minutes each or we will not be within the time limit. By meeting we were able to have a good conversation about how to make sure we stay within the time limit but also make sure that we all are able to speak equally. We also are planning the next dates that we will meet where we can start recording pieces of the speech and start editing all the pieces together. We also are starting to plan the editing of the clips and how we are going to make the two segments flow together smoothly.

  3. Over the past week, my group met and we worked on several things but also ran into some challenges. We all came up with our scripts and planned to put them together. However, we had all prepared too much for the time allotted. It is challenging to fit four people’s ideas into a five to seven-minute video, so we made some changes so that we all have enough time to speak without going over. We did a full run-through and timed it and this is where we noticed some of these details. Going through it was helpful to figure out who would be speaking when and which questions we were asking. We could go over these details together as it is not something that can be figured out without meeting in person. We also discussed more details of what we wanted to do for our ad and the introduction, and when we wanted to film it. In addition, we talked about our next possible meeting times and what we want to see happen in the next few weeks to come before we have to have it completed. Overall, it was a productive meeting, and we have a solid plan.

  4. This past week we have been adding more info to our google doc as well as practicing our lines in the talk show. We were able to meet for a good chunk of time during the last class and came up with a couple more ideas for the project. One was to add an interview aspect to the project. I have reached out to Emily Estell, who is a nutrition professor here, and she will be giving us more insight into the nutrition major and minor as a whole. I have scheduled a meeting to get the interview done sometime next week. I was going to try and get it done this week but she is busier than expected. So when doing the dry run next class, we will keep in mind timing-wise that we also have an interview that needs to be added. With this interview, we finalized the questions that I will be asking her so that we are all on the same page. This next dry run will be important so that we can figure out the next steps to finalizing and finishing the project!

  5. This week we spent a lot of time communicating back and forth about our speech script. We elaborated on what we already had and made improvements where it was necessary. Last class we met for a good chunk of time and added some necessary details to our script and then we worked off of that for our speaking notes for this week. Everything is coming together pretty well. Additionally, we talked about our interviews and when we planned on filming them, probably sometime within the next week is what we came to. We planned around the fact that we would not have the interview right now for the dry run. We had to work with what we had and that’s okay. Overall, our speech is coming together nicely and I think we are prepared for this coming dry run.

  6. We have met up and discussed our speech and the direction we want our video to go towards. We know we want me and Stella as the News anchors and Kassidy in the field as a reporter getting “live” interviews from students. We want it to feel like a real news production, so we are finishing up our script to make me and Stellas interactions go as smooth as possible back at the studio and give a real news cast feel. While we are writing questions for Kassidy to ask to the students, she interviews to get insight on their major and why they chose it.

  7. this week we have been working on formatting the next draft of our outline. We have also been working on cementing the script for our speech as well as what each person is going to say. we have met as a group to discuss and start filming interviews, as well as working individually to finalize our own parts of the speech since we have the baseline ideas just not the entire lines. we have also been working out small details like what each of us should wear and who were going to be interviewing and where the interviews are going to fit into our final video.

  8. This week we have been working on finalizing our outline. We all know our parts so in our shared document we have each been adding to our parts and coming up with some more questions or responses. We also set aside time to film the interview parts of our speech so we could have those as a supplement in our dry run in order for it to be 6 minutes. We had to figure out who we are going to interview and reach out to them to figure out a good time that they may be able to film as well as where that specific part would fit into our video. As far as some smaller things, we have been figuring out where we are going to film the speech as part of it is going to be in the “news station” and figuring out the locations for some of the interviews. I feel we are in a good place for the dry run on Wednesday.

  9. Last class, we presented our dry-dry-run and I got to meet with my group during class time. We came up with a few new ideas as we are working towards the rehearsal and filming process. One idea that we want to implement is an interview with someone outside of our group to help make our talk show more interesting. We chose a nutrition specialist/advisor here on campus to talk about the differences in a nutrition major and minor, and the benefits. We want to do a video call during the talk show, so we determined some questions to ask that would be relevant to each of our majors. Since we met last Wednesday, we have been practicing our script to present our dry-run next class. The goal this week is to feel out the structure of our Q&A segment before we present our script in front of the class by practicing our lines. We feel like we have good content and ideas that we want to bring to life in our video, but our execution will be key in making this a successful project.

  10. Journal 17
What me and my partner have been working on for speech four since last class is looking over the whole project in general and watching our dry dry run video to see if there was anything we wanted to add or anything we didn’t like. We have added more to our script. We have texted people or emailed people that we want to interview to see when the best time is for them to sit down and have a short interview. We have already interviewed one person we drove to Wells high school to interview a high school AT. I also bought these five dollar microphones off of Amazon to make sure our audio is crystal clear and it all sounds the same. We have started the very very beginning of our video. We have also edited the video of our first interview. We have two more interviews tomorrow, the college A,T and her internAnd we might also have a junior in the program tomorrow as well and the Professional said he would send us a video of him answering the questions because he lives in Tampa. With all of this being said, I think we are on a really good path to completing this project and making it the best we can.

  11. This past week I thought a lot about what I think we should change and work on. As a group, we agreed on mostly everything which is good. As of last week, we had a small script of what we were planning on saying so this week we really worked on making the script sound better and be long enough. I’m excited for the dry run to get everyone’s opinion because it’s always good to get constructive criticism. I feel like it’s a little hard to take such an uninteresting topic and try to make it entertaining. We are trying to think of things to keep our talk show interesting but I’m not 100%. I think over the next week we will be able to finalize the script and start recording and it will take a lot of stress off the project, especially with getting criticism from the class tomorrow. I think once we add all of the video parts to it it’ll be a lot better. I feel like this project has a lot of potential. We’ve been working on a shared doc over the week and we met up in person so we’ve put in a lot of work for this project. I hope it will pay off in the end but we still have a few weeks until we find out.

  12. So far, this past week has been pretty rough, to be completely honest. I was extremely busy with other classes and personal things, so I was unable to meet with my group in person, and I feel really bad about that. However, I think one thing we are excelling in is communicating with each other via text messages. If we can’t meet at a time, we are quickly letting each other know, and we have made progress with our outline. I think the second all of us can actually meet together without any interruptions or hurdles, we can get this done efficiently and successfully. I am just hoping that I don’t have any more interferences and that it will be smooth sailing from here on out. I think for me, I have been working on what the best type of banter between interviews can be and making sure I know what I am talking about. I am also working on trying to be energized and humorous while answering my questions, but at the same time, being serious and professional. If I am too joking and funny, I am worried I won’t be taken seriously. I think the second all of us get to meet with each other fully, we will have this done.

  13. This past week has been tough for me. I was really busy with my other classes and I had two exams, so I couldn’t able to prepare about this speech. But we’re doing a good job talking through text messages. If we can’t meet, we let each other know quickly. We’ve made progress with our plan. Once we can all meet without any problems, we can finish this project well and fast. I hope nothing else gets in the way, and everything goes smoothly from now on. Personally, I’ve been thinking about how to talk between interviews and making sure I understand what I’m talking about. I’m also trying to be as natural as I can when answering questions, but still serious and professional. I worry if I’m going to be stressed, and don’t mess up the speech . When we all finally get together, we’ll finish this.

  14. To continue working on our project, My group and I met up out of class again to discuss what we needed to fix. During this meeting, we developed a better ending to out project as well as we developed a better introduction. We added more information to the beginning and created a more creative ending that is supposed to leave the people watching or listening with a smile. I also added a bit more information to my part of the project and we discussed some more creative things that we can add when we start recording.

  15. Over the past week we have solidified our interviews and made appointments with people so we can record. We have gone over our questions multiple times and edited them to how we feel fits best for each position in this field. Over the next couple of weeks really all we have to do is edit our videos and make them into a talk show as well as come up with an idea for our name and add in some small talk. We felt as though small talk and jokes were going to be very important to keep the audience entertained as we are both in the same major so there’s only so much we can talk about. We think that having multiple athletic trainers, starting at the high school level and working our way up to the professional level will give us many insights into this career and will really help us describe what athletic training really is to people who don’t know what it is. Over the next week, we really need to solidify our script by having an introduction and an ending and figuring out the best way to transition in between videos whether it being small talk or reviewing what was said in the interviews. I feel as though that we are in a good spot, and we could potentially get this done within the next couple of days as the rest of our interviews will be done Wednesday night.

  16. Over this past week, my group has worked on finalizing our outline and speech and ironing out all the details of how we want our video to look. As well as background music and other pictures and graphics we want to add to the video. We also reached out to the people we are looking to interview and worked out when we will do the interviews. We then filmed those interviews and ended up asking 3 different people 5 short questions, so in total we have collected 17 short interview questions from everyone we interviewed this week and last week. We also did two longer interviews with more in-depth questions and those turned out great as well. It was a productive week and we are all ready to finish up filming in this next week. We will then also work on completing the editing of our speech and any final filming needed. We are in a really good spot having filmed almost everything and we will be finishing this up in the next few days, and with the extra time we can focus on editing everything as well as we can

  17. We met up in person and discussed more creative things that we could do for the project. We know what information we want to say already but we don’t want it to be boring. We’re also working on the ending of the video so that it doesn’t just cut off when we’re done saying what we want to say. We worked on a shared doc and talked about what we would want to do for the video. One of the things that came up was possible segments that we could do for each major. I think that this would be a great way to keep people engaged while also explaining what our major is about and why it’s important to us. The only thing I’m worried about is the humor and creativity.

  18. This week we worked on finalizing our script in the google doc and practicing our own parts. Frankie got in contact with the nutrition major head to interview for our project on the nutrition major and minor. We also mapped out where we wanted to add the interview into our script. We worked on practicing our script to make us not sound so scripted and make it flow nicely. I think that we have a good head start on our project are ready to start recording soon. We watched the dry-dry run and just went over some of the things we talked about before.

  19. Since the last class, I have been working on coming up with interview questions that will keep our viewers engaged and asking the right questions to get important information that we need without the interviews being too long and running over the time limit. I am also finalizing who I will be interviewing and how many interviews we want to incorporate. Our group as a whole has been working on our script. For the most part, our video will be scripted and have some room in there for things that come to us at the moment. We are focusing on making sure everything flows together and we have good transitions between segments. I think we are also trying to be aware of the time limit and making sure we stay within the time limit given for our next dry run.
