  1. The first thing I want to make sure we do this week is completely flesh out our plan. I want to go through and figure out the order of us speaking (who will introduce themself first, who will ask which questions, etc). I also want to figure out the general idea of what everyone will be saying so that we can figure out where might be good places for us to bounce off of one another in a natural manner. I want it to feel natural and comfortable while we are speaking so that it can resemble the idea we are going for of a conversational talk show with a panel such as The View. I also want to film our introduction where we give an overview of what the “episode” will entail and what our segments are about. I think this will include me walking through the commons, talking to the camera/audience about the general idea of the show and who the hosts are. I also want to plan and film our ads; I think these ads will be light hearted and funny and based on UNE or our majors as a whole. Something that will be entertaining and not super educational so that the audience has a bit of a break from the overload of information being given to them in such a short amount of time. We also need to just get used to presenting together which will come with practice and talking more face to face.

  2. Over the next week, my group plans to dig deeper into what we want the project to look like. While we have a structure and idea, we have to figure out who will be doing the introduction, who will be asking the questions, which group is part of the first and second segments, and even come up with a title for our talk show. We want it to flow like a typical talk show and have a natural conversation, so the next time we meet, we plan to put our scripts together to see how we can develop it and even add some friendly banter. We want to create an advertisement to play between the two segments so that the audience has a little break between educational information related to our majors. We want the overall project to be informative but also entertaining, and I think it will be helpful to accomplish this. In addition, we are working to create an introduction that can be engaging, so an idea we have had is one person will walk through the commons and talk about what the show will be about. Overall, I think we have a good start, and it will come together as we continue to meet and talk about it.

  3. Going into the dry-dry run, we had a pretty good outline of our speech. I felt we did a good job explaining to the audience about what the speech was going to entail in a good amount of detail. Most of what we have to do is get answers to our questions that we are going to be asking. We had written down all of our questions that we were going to ask the pre-pharmacy students and the Pharmacist. However, something new that we had thought of was asking the second year pre-pharmacy students some questions and get an idea of what they’re looking forward to heading into Pharmacy school next year. We will need to come up with those questions so we can get started on filming the interviews to have them for our dry run next week. I feel like we are in a good place to start filming some of the parts, especially the interviews. While watching the video a critique that I noticed for myself, although this was a dry-dry run, I was still saying “um” and “like” so I am definitely going to practice my parts before we begin filming so it is a nice clear clip.

  4. Pre Recording Notes:

After watching the dry-dry run I think there are things to note on what we seemed iffy on when presenting our ideas and what we sounded like we wanted to do. Taking these into account will help us finish creating our “script”. I like the ideas we have so far but I think we can get a little more creative and that will take some working together and brainstorming. I think our next step is to take what we have written so far, critique it, and make it better. I think we have a better grasp on what we want to do which will make it a little easier than when we first started. I think this coming week will be the fun part where we test how things sound and flow and decide on what we are going to end up with as a final project so we can then record it the week after and edit the video. I would say we are at a really good place gouging into this coming week and the next step is to just keep pushing through this project and making it what we want. We will definitely have to meet a few times over the next week to put some work in but thankfully we all work really well together!

  5. Pre Recording Notes

I think going into our recording time, we should have a planned speech. We have a general idea of what we want to say, but our recording notes need to be ironed out more. Additionally, we should add a little more charm. Our speech right now is a little dry and the addition of some jokes or something along those lines would be beneficial to our final product. I think our next steps involve figuring out our speech script ironing out every detail and then practicing. We need to rehearse what is going to be presented so that our final product is perfect. With some testing and a lot of rehearsing our final product will be great.

  6. After watching our recording of the first draft of this project I think there are many things that we need to work on. But overall I feel we have a very good base. We have our script done but I think the biggest thing now is getting our timing down as well. we also need to figure out how to work off the script as well and not just read it the whole time. This will all come with practice. I need to reach out to Emily Estell and make time for an interview for that part of our project too. She is going to join our talk show on a FaceTime call so that we can add some more depth to our project. Asking her questions about the nutrition major is going to help people make even more sense of the major and the minor. I think we have great ideas and lots of depth to this project but much more practice is needed. This next dry run will help us to figure out the next steps.

  7. after watching our dry dry run recording it’s clear that we need to polish off our script for everything outside of the interview pieces as of now, because we are planning on the interviews being live interviews. We should start to think about a few solid questions to ask the people we are interviewing so that we can make sure we have good usable content in our video. As we add more to the script, we should try to give it a lighthearted feel however I anticipate that will just come naturally while filming.

  8. After watching the recording of our dry-dry-run from last class, I think we are trending in the right direction with this project. However, I noticed that we focused a lot on the idea that our talk show guests will be student-athletes. While this is important and relevant to our group’s majors, we want to make sure that we are putting a bigger emphasis on the majors themselves. The best way to do this is to ask lots of questions during the Q&A segment of our talk show that are related to each of our majors. We have made sure to work this into our script, which we have been finishing up since our video last class. We also want to interview someone in the nutrition department at UNE to help examine and make more connections to our group’s majors in greater detail. It will be a nice change of pace within our talk show to incorporate a perspective different from that of a college student. My group has a good understanding of where we want to take this project and what we want it to look like, but we want to be sure that we are exploring our majors fully.

  9. Journal 16
After watching the dry dry run video we took in class. I definitely think we are on a good track and have some good ideas. I really like how we’re going about this with the Interviews starting from us in high school to someone who has gone through the process a little bit, and then to the high school level, and then college and then all the way up to the professional level. Also, after listening to other people talk, we got some good ideas on what we could add to ours. We haven’t really found anything that we haven’t liked so far. There is definitely still more work to be done. We’re still trying to figure out exactly what questions we want to ask each person whether it’s all the same questions or everyone gets different questions or we want to make some questions. Funny, we’re trying to tie everything in together so it’s not a bunch of different things, but other than that I think we are both at a good place right now with our video but I’m sure of the more we keep looking in the more we keep doing we’re going to find stuff we want to add or find more stuff we don’t like.

  10. Although we forgot to actually record our dry dry run, I still remembered it very well and how it went. Overall, I look back at it and I feel really good about our project and our ideas. Everyone liked the idea of bringing in tons of energy for a talk show concept and everyone seemed to like the way we are thinking bringing everything together. One idea that I thought of was making our talk show host a former University of New England Student so that we can include all of our majors and connect everything together. I also think we did a good job establishing what we want to say, we came up with a good amount of questions, I believe around four, to ask all three people that are being interviewed. At the end of the interview, we wanted to find a way to connect all of our majors in a certain way. Each one of our majors talks about or tackles the idea of health in different ways, and I think if we do a good job connecting it all together, it could be really strong. I think our actual concept makes sense and works, but I am worried about how our execution process will go. I am not an expert on editing and we need to make sure it doesn’t look shotty or campy. I think it is important that we all practice improvising certain phrases because at the end of the day, this is a talk show. A talk show isn’t complete without banter in between the interviews. I want us all to communicate and make sure our overall outline and script is strong, flows well and is not boring. I am confident that our ideas make a lot of sense, but I just want our execution to be strong.

  11. Even though we forgot to record our practice session, I remember it well and feel good about our project and ideas. Everyone liked the idea of making a lively talk show, and they liked how we’re putting everything together. One thing my group suggested was having our talk show host be a former University of New England student, so we could connect all our majors. And We also have good questions for the interviews, about four for each person. We wanted to tie all our majors together by talking about health in different ways. I think if we do this well, it could be really strong. Our idea makes sense, but I’m worried about how we’ll actually going to present it. I’m not great at explaining things to people, and we need to make sure it looks good. It’s important that we all practice talking naturally because it’s a talk show. We need to chat between interviews to keep it interesting. I want us to talk and make sure our plan and script are strong and not boring. I believe in our ideas, but I want us to execute them well.

  12. After watching the dry-dry run recording and listening to the basic notes, I like the idea that we have at the start. I feel that we made pretty good progress getting the basic information that we want to include in the project done but we still needed to finish and add an ending. I think that our next steps are to really read it over and go through what we really like and what we want to change. I think we could also be a little more creative as well as add a bit more information to the project. The main concern for me is either not getting enough information across or putting too much information and making it really boring. We could add a bit more to the beginning as well as a bit more information to the guests talking but otherwise I think it’s pretty creative and really good. It just needs a little bit more updating.

  13. In the dry dry run I thought we had most of our ideas set and stone and knew what we were going to do. There are definitely things that the both of us need to figure out and finished editing what we would like to say. The only things that we really need to get to finish up our script is the answers from the people that we are interviewing. I thought it was interesting how we set it up going from the first real experience with an athletic trainer in high school and working our way up to the professional level and how each differs but at the same time are also similar. So far we have liked what we have added and what we have taken out and feel like it will make our speech all the more better. Although there is only two of us on this project, which adds a bunch more work to the both of us, we feel as thought we have balanced our times well with each interview and have set it up to put us on the right track to be able to finish this project even earlier than we had thought.

  14. We met up on Sunday and talked about how we wanted to inform our audience about the majors and what kind of advertisement to execute. The plan is that we have a charity commercial, like those commercials about hospitals or endangered animals. We are trying to raise funds for a sea urchin experiment in the lab. Other than that we still have to create an intro, outro, and film the main sections of our speech, as well as making a final draft of the advertisement. We have a LOT of work to do but I’m confident that our group will pull through in the next two weeks or so. If we finish filming this week, I am hoping we can start editing the following at Digi space over in SASC. I am really really bad at editing so I’m hoping they can help with the sound quality and timing of everything in the speech.

  15. After watching the dry-dry run video, it helped me realized how we needed something that would be able to captivate people but still get the information about our majors across. Our group has very different majors so it’s difficult to connect them and talk about all 3 without giving less attention to the other. I think that having segments based on each major, not all being the same, would be really good so that we aren’t just pouring out information out and making the audience bored. I want our video to be both informational and entertaining because I understand when being shown something that doesn’t interest you makes it difficult to focus.

  16. Watching the dry run video in class, gave me some ideas to incorporate in our next dry run as well as some things to focus on and make better. Since this dry run was a walk-through of our ideas, it was hard to find things I needed to work on from that video. But due to my part of the speech I need to work on making eye contact with the person I am interviewing and making sure I don’t read off of the script that I had and keep it somewhat natural. I think that during the dry run my group as a whole, had a plan and direction we wanted to take our project. I think moving forward we need to make those ideas come to life and start focusing on the little details that will make our project.
