  1. This past week I have been working on perfecting the flow of Casey and my speech. We both have gone over it alone and in person to see what we should add or take out. We have been communicating over text and in person. Being in person made it a lot easier to talk things out and I think we made a lot of progress on our speech and how it sounds. When in person, we did our speech a few times till it felt natural and sounded good then we did some runs while we timed it. We found that we sat for around three minutes each time, which was what we wanted. Over the past week our chemistry has become better so we wound up presenting together. We also practiced passing the football a lot so hopefully it’s good when we have to do it in front of the class.
What were some challenges that we had? Some challenges that we faced were trying to make time to be able to meet in person. It was hard because we have two different schedules but we overcame it. We were able to find times that worked best for both of us and we made the most out of the times that we met. On the other hand, the successes that we met included getting better at working together and making our speech sound better. I think this week was really good because we were actually able to meet in person and it made all the difference.

  2. This past week Maddy and I have been working on practicing our speech with our props to get a more accurate feeling of how long the speech actually will be and what we need to add or take out. In order to practice to the best of our abilities we have been communicating by meeting in person as well as having a shared document. A challenge that we have faced was making sure to say all the information clearly while also demonstrating how to make a bed because we want to make sure to stay engaged with the audience. We have also had trouble making the speech reach the correct amount of time, but after we continued to practice we were able to slow down and get the speech to be at least four minutes. We condensed our working outline into a speaking outline so it is more concise and we are able to make eye contact and stay engaged with the audience throughout the duration of the speech. Overall, we’ve had a successful week in preparation for the dry run of Speech Number 2.

  3. Over this week Taryn and I have worked on extending our speech to make it fit in the allotted time. To practice we have met up in person and shared a google doc for our working outline. We have chosen and practiced using our prop this past week to get a more accurate feel for how long our speech will be. We struggled at first to get our speech to be long enough however as we incorporated our props and practiced our speech standing up like we will be on delivery day we have lengthened our speech to just over 4 minutes. We have condensed our working outline into a speaking outline that is much shorter. A challenge we have faced is adding enough steps and information to our speech without making it sound repetitive and annoying. Something we definitely need to work on after speech 1 is engaging the audience more and making more eye contact throughout the delivery of our speech. Overall this week has been successful in developing our speech to prepare for the dry run day.

  4. Over the week since our last class, my partner and I have been working on developing speech 2. We started writing a more detailed outline to prepare for the dry run. We split up what we would talk about and who would demonstrate the split squats. Because neither of us wanted to show the skill at the same time, we figured out what we would each be doing. We met up during the week for an hour to highlight our outline with our parts so we would feel ready for the dry run. This was helpful because wanted to determine the best way to connect with our audience and a way to make the speech flow. A challenge we have had is coordinating a time to meet with our busy schedules, but we could find a time when we both were free. Overall, it has been a pretty successful experience. Over this next week, we plan to meet with each other a few more times to practice it and I plan to practice my parts a little every day so that I am ready. I feel more comfortable with this skill and I hope to be less stiff with my body language and feel more comfortable standing in front of the class, as well as make an impactful conclusion to the speech.

  5. Over the past week, my partner and I have met up in person as we are progressing through this project. We are beginning to rehearse our speech as we practice using our outline, trying to compress our long sentences to words and short phrases. We are both struggling with remembering everything that we want to say, which has made it difficult for us to reach the minimum time requirement for the presentation. Overcoming this challenge is simple, but is easier said than done. We have been practicing as much as possible with the notes we have so far, encouraging each other to not only practice together in person, but on our own. This is the best way to help us memorize our main points and sub-points. We have been successful in our collaboration efforts, as we both want to deliver this speech to the best of our ability. We have similar ideas and agree on many aspects of delivery and content of our speech, allowing us to easily work together.

  6. For the past week, Kassidy and I have been finalizing our speech. We have been working on our working outline, getting it ready for the dry run. We have been communicating pretty well, texting almost daily to figure out what is best for our speech. We also met on Tuesday in person to discuss the parts of the speech that would be difficult to decide over the Google doc. Meeting in person was very beneficial to us as we talked through the whole script and decided on who was going to say what part. We also added transitions to make our speech flow better. The only real challenge I can think of is the fact that we both are pretty busy. This is because this speech is landing right in time for exam season. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this so we both just had to find time we could work on our speech. This is not a huge deal at all as we worked through it pretty well.

  7. Grace and I met on Monday this week where we went into more detail about how we will perform our speech. During this meeting, we went into depth about who would speak on what topic and how to make the speech flow. We have been working on a shared document, we came up with the idea to highlight the topics that each of us will be focusing more in-depth on. While we do have a shared document, we also have been texting about the speech. We text more about when we are going to meet and where rather than the speech itself because we find it harder to talk about the speech over text. When we were able to meet we got a lot done and we started to prepare for the dry run on Wednesday. We also made sure to look over the rubric and make sure we hit everything on there. I feel comfortable with the topic that we are going to do and while Grace may not be as comfortable with it, she will be focusing on the topics that are more clear to her. Next week, I would like to meet with Grace and go through the whole presentation with the props, this way it gets us comfortable with the speak and the flow of it. I think that me and Grace have come up with good ideas about how to make this presentation reach the time limit, however, when we meet next week I would like to time the speech to make sure we reach the time limit. I am hoping when we practice next week we can determine what we need to focus on during the speech and how to make the speech more clear. I am excited to do this presentation as I am really excited to talk about this topic.

  8. I am going to be completely honest with you. It has been extremely difficult between now and last week because I personally have been sick with a really bad cold and we haven’t had a lot of opportunities to meet in person, but we have been trying to communicate and practice and plan everything out as best we can. We want to get as much feedback as we can to improve our conditions and practice together more consistently. What we HAVE been able to work on this past week was figuring out alternative props and ideas because you seemed very critical of the idea of me bringing in parts of my story, so we went back to the drawing board and thought of other ways to introduce skills related to writing, using physical props. We want to ensure we come up with the best plan possible because I know how much of a stretch our idea is, but we are coming up with strategies and ideas to ensure that it stands out and follows the criteria. Some of the biggest challenges we have encountered have been coming up with these alternatives to the ideas that you have been very unapproving of and working around them. I personally thought it was a good idea, but furthermore, because of how tough it has been to plan out everything between today and last week, as well as me being sick, we have had difficulties actually meeting up and so there were times we had to meet virtually to discuss things, but we did meet in person and we just have to work on delivering our presentation with clarity and precision to ensure it flows well. We did find other ways to meet and we have been trying our best to make everything good. I think the alternatives we came up with for the props are good ideas and we also found a good way to connect them to our presentation in a seamless and proper way. I just hope that we can come together and end up knocking this out of the park, but we need all the help we can get to perfect this.

  9. This past week we have been able to come up with different ideas for props, closing statements, and working on the material in between. Between sickness on both of our parts, and important school meetings on mine, we did not have any good times to meet each other in person but we were able to meet up virtually over voice chat. There we discussed how we would further relate our topic to the audience, props, and a few solid conclusions statements. The biggest challenge of our work this past week has definitely been the time constraints considering we are both really busy and our schedules are always on and off. The times that we do have we were both sick, which was really difficult. Even though it probably was not as helpful as meeting in person, our virtual call was still very beneficial to the project and even if we did not come up with as many new concepts, we were still able to edit and solidify some of them.

  10. Over the past week, my partner and I have met multiple times in person. We started rehearsing our speech as well as writing out an outline for our speech. We have found that it is very hard to remember everything we want to say, especially because of the length of the speech. The only way to get this part down is to continue to rehearse it over and over again. We also encourage each other to read over our outline when we’re not together as well, this can also help with the memorizing process. This past week has been very busy for both of us so we did not have as much time as we had hoped to rehearse it but luckily this Wednesday is only the dry run! We have been able to agree on many aspects of the delivery of our speech which has been a great success. We both bring great ideas to the table and have been able to incorporate them into our speeches.

  11. Over the past week, I have been going over what I really wanted to say in the speech and how I could make it flow easier without using so many words like the word “Like.” I also met up with Mariyalee over the past few days and kind of went over the stuff that we still had to do as well as develop a rough outline that kind of goes over what we need to discuss. The outline will be improved once we actually make the material and measure what we nee to make it more precise. One difficult thing that we have to over come is me unfortunately having to take a quick trip home so I can’t be there to discuss in person, but we have also been communicating over snap chat, so if either of us had any questions or comments about the outline or meeting in person, then we could just text each other or call each other if we had to and solve the issue. I think that once we meet in person one more time and practice the speech as well as figure out timing, it will really help us improve.

  12. This week we have been spending more time practicing our speech in person versus just over the google doc. Last week we mostly focused on outlining the speech itself and the exact language and layout of it, this week we were more focused on the performance aspect. We both put a lot of time into trying to figure out each of our own individual presenting styles so that we could grow and build off of one another. We spent so much time working on it because by the time we get to our final presentation we want it to feel like a conversation between the two of us and the audience, we want it to flow and feel natural and not as scripted. Something that we had trouble with was definitely just finding and making the time to get together in person because we are both varsity athletes and have very busy schedules but we made the time and I think it will greatly benefit us in the long run. I feel like overall it was a hard task to try to not only write and present a speech but also do it with another person since you have to adjust to their performance style and cadence of speech. However, I think it’s a really important skill to have since it allows us to work together as a team and expand our presenting skills at the same time.

  13. Over this past week my partner and I met once and we ironed out all the details of our speech. Who was going to say what parts. How we are going to show a round, who is going to display the cards, and when. It was a good challenge to teach my partner the game after having played it hundreds of times before. I think I really got the hang of explaining everything simply. We decided to start with one simple round with just the basics. Then we will move on to the second round and add some more strategies, and more advanced ways to gain points. As well as good things to keep in mind while playing each second of the gameplay. I think my partner has gotten a pretty good grasp on this game, and I think we are prepared and ready to have our dry run. My partner and I communicated over text about where to meet and when, as well as what we would need to do, and any extra information we needed to add to our document. Overall we have a good grasp of how we are going to present our speech, what order we are going to say things, and how we are going to meet the time limit for our dry run.

  14. This past week we have been trying to finalize our speech so we can get enough feedback on it to tweak some details to make it flow better. I think flow is what we really need but are struggling to achieve it. We worked a lot on the intro and conclusion of our speech because in the middle we think the information is pretty good we think. We have been able to meet 2 times before this next class to go over some things and rehearse. I think the most challenging thing about this time was the introduction and how to set it up in a way that would pull the audience in.

  15. With my partner this week we have been working on our speech to make it more of an outline rather than a script. We have been trying to come up with some key words to remember what we want to say but it has been a little difficult trying to find things that will help us remember. We have been communicating pretty much fully in person and are feeling pretty good about what we are going to say within our speech. Like I mentioned earlier the only problems we have really encountered is finding the right key words that’s going to help us remember exactly what we are trying to say. For our props we are going to be printing out the ingredients to make a bacon egg and cheese and building it as well as we are going to make one at home and record the process to play while we are talking. We have had many successes this time around as we have agreed on everything we needed for this speech and agreed on how we wanted to have it turn out. I think a lot of people will enjoy this as everybody loves to eat food as well as who doesn’t love to eat breakfast.

  16. Journal 9
What me and my partner have been working on this past week is we have got an actual idea of what we want to do. We have written a rough draft of our “script” and we are going to add more to that. We are also going to include a video of us preparing and making what we are going to be showing in class. We have been communicating outside of school in person. We have also been texting and we have a shared doc that we both work on. We have been talking and editing the doc as we go. We haven’t had many challenges other than the actual decision on what we wanted to do and how we wanted to do it. We also both have very busy schedules and have a lot going on so that is another challenge. What we have done to overcome them is just talk to each other and set a time when we are both free to work. The success we have had is that we have not argued about anything. We both have listened really well and agreed with each other’s ideas.

  17. Since the last class me and my partner is working on the project that we have to present in the class and in that project we are going to teach class how to play cribbage which is the card game. In the past week we are working on how we are going to present our speech and who is going to describe which part. We are communicating through messages and we also have shared document so that’s how we are able to work together. In this process we have a problem about meeting in person because she is commuting and she is not always on campus. Because of this we weren’t able to meet many times in person, but we found a way that whenever we are not going to meet each other we just do zoom meetings. That’s how we solved problem.

  18. Eadie and I have been working on our rehearsal of the speech and adding in small parts such as humor and intriguing facts/ knowledge about our topic. We have set up two times to rehearse this week over text and communicating about the project in person has been very beneficial. A challenge we have both faced is remembering the order of the steps in our speech. With time, practice and making our outline as clear as possible we have been able to minimize our mess ups with each attempt. We have both found success from meeting in person and walking through the speech a few times and discussing what we think should be added and where.
